Early care providers speak after Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimous vote approves the Measure C Five Year Plan
On Tuesday, June 10, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the five-year plan for Measure C: The Children’s Health & Child Care Initiative for Alameda County. Thank you to the over 40 individuals and organizations who signed on to our letter to the Board of Supervisors in support of the plan.

On May 12th, Oakland Starting Smart and Strong (OSSS) joined Parent Voices Oakland (PVO) to travel to Santa Clara County for Community Change Action’s 4th Annual National A Day Without Child Care. This organizing effort was the first regional collaboration of child care advocacy organizations in recent years. The Bay Area has one of the highest costs of living in the country, making regional actions relevant.

The Oakland Starting Smart and Strong (OSSS) Task Force represents a diverse range of organizations and individuals from Oakland’s early childhood community. With over 100 members, these leaders review and discuss critical issues related to the well-being of young children, their families, caregivers and educators. 
Prior to the pandemic, OSSS often held in-person Task Force meetings on timely topics. On April 30th, we were pleased to bring these meetings back!

Measure C Implementation Update

​ It has been over five years since Measure C: The Children’s Health & Child Care Initiative for Alameda County was on the ballot and approved by voters. After a lengthy legal challenge, Alameda County finally prevailed in court last spring, securing funding for child care and children’s health programs.
