Data, Policy & Advocacy

Oakland Starting Smart and Strong is committed to continuing its data, policy, and advocacy efforts. We deepen our commitment to centering community voices and leadership in data collection and analysis and working to ensure that our data, policy and advocacy efforts drive meaningful change in Oakland.

Policy & Advocacy

FCC Leader Nancy Harvey stands with Assemblymember Mia Bonta and Kym Johnson, CEO of BANANAS, at the FCC celebration
OSSS has developed a community-driven policy agenda grounded in systems change for Oakland’s youngest learners, parent and family leadership in community investment, and equity for early childhood professionals and friend/family/neighbor caregivers.

The Oakland Early Childhood Ecosystem Data Portal is a tool for families, educators/providers, policymakers, advocates, and funders who seek to leverage data to understand our early childhood landscape and strengthen systems for young children and their families.

Early Development Instrument (EDI)

Image of the EDI Dashboard shows four maps that can be found on the website
This tool gives a snapshot of young children's health, development, and school readiness within each “zone” or neighborhood.
