Racial Justice

OSSS has long centered equity in its work and our 2022-2025 strategic plan deepens our commitment to building an antiracist, trauma informed system that provides quality environments and opportunities for all children and families in Oakland, regardless of their zip code.

Promising Practices

Promising Practices are designed for anyone interested in re-imagining what it means to support and engage with boys of color and their families, especially families living in poverty or with trauma, including the trauma inflicted by racism.

Resilient Oakland Communities and Kids

ROCK builds knowledge about protective factors and resilience, trauma and its impact on children's health and learning, and classroom-based trauma informed practices for early childhood educators.

Related to this work:
  • Developmental Screening: Developmental screenings are a vital tool to learn about children’s development and identify delays or concerns for early intervention.
  • Early Development Instrument (EDI): This tool gives a snapshot of young childrens’ health, development, and school readiness within each “zone” or neighborhood.
