The Oakland Starting Smart and Strong 2022-2025 Strategic Plan was created with action at its center – we did not intend for it to sit on a shelf (or in a PDF). The plan, developed in collaboration with over 300 stakeholders, builds on our past successes, maps a clear strategic direction forward, and is deeply rooted in our commitment to racial justice and equity. This summer, we took a look at our progress as we embark on the last year of the plan. Here are just some highlights: Since 2017, OSSS has been working with early childhood educators through the ROCK initiative to increase resilience and healing and to promote the healthy social emotional development of children in trauma-sensitive and trauma-responsive environments. Crucially, educators are more able to offer a healing early learning environment when they are attuned to their own well-being. That’s why, over the years, we’ve crafted and honed an early childhood educator learning framework that includes in-person and virtual group workshops, Professional Learning Communities, coaching, yoga, and self-care resources. Happy New Year! While 2020 was a challenging year, OSSS worked to help meet the needs of our community in a time of crisis and made gains in reaching our long-term goals. We are grateful for the resilience, hard work, and innovation of our community members, partners and funders. Please take a moment to look back at what we were able to collaboratively achieve in our OSSS Year in Review. We begin 2021 with a renewed focus on supporting Oakland’s youngest children and their families. Thank you for your partnership, and look forward to our continued work together. |
