ABOUT JACKIE

Picture
Favorite Children’s Book:
Buffalo Woman, by Paul Goble
The Tale of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrix Potter

Jackie Jimenez-Subrata ties the collaborative together, coordinating the day-to-day activities so that Oakland Starting Smart and Strong partners can work together in service of Oakland’s youngest children and their families.

Jackie was born and raised in San Francisco with strong cultural ties to Guatemala. During childhood, she spent every summer in her mother’s village of Todos Santos where she was fully immersed in wearing her traditional clothing, speaking her mother’s Mayan language, and attending the local school. Having had this opportunity to grow up in two different cultures, Jackie valued her education and was eager to work with youth at a young age.

Jackie graduated from Lowell High School and earned her BA in Sociology and Political Science at SF State. After graduation, she worked at an after-school program as a first grade teacher and at the San Francisco SPCA within their humane education department. In 2017, Jackie completed her Masters in Educational Leadership from Mills College. Most recently, she worked at LPS Oakland High School as their operations coordinator.

Jackie is thrilled to be apart of Oakland Starting Smart and Strong for the past three years, where she has continued to pursue her passion to provide equitable educational resources, services, and programs to communities of color in the Bay Area. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, volunteering for Cat Town, and spending time with her cats and husband, who is an 8th grade science teacher in Oakland.
