COVID-19 Response: First 5 Alameda County
First 5 Alameda County has a wealth of resources to support children, families, and the early learning and care community through the COVID-19 crisis. The organization recently launched its Community Resilience Fund, with initial grants totaling $3 million. Grants are supporting distribution of emergency food and supplies for families and child care providers throughout the county. First 5 has also created a COVID-19 Information and Resources page for the ECE community, and its Help Me Grow program has specific resources for parents and caregivers. Plus, Alameda County Fathers Corps, co-led by First 5, is hosting a series of Dad-scussions.
Visit First 5 Alameda County’s COVID-19 Information and Resources page for a series of webinars for ECE providers, produced by the countywide Emergency Child Care Response Team and other partners. The site also includes a multilingual intake form to support essential workers who need child care, as well as guidance for child care providers affected by the crisis. On AlamedaKids.org, parents and caregivers can find information curated by Help Me Grow Alameda County on talking to kids about COVID-19, relieving stress, at-home learning, and more. The Dad-scussions series hosted by Alameda County Fathers Corps provide ongoing opportunities for fathers to connect and check in about challenges during COVID.
First 5’s Community Resilience Fund is supporting the health and wellbeing of children and families through purchase and distribution of a range of supplies, including food and other basic necessities. So far, First 5 has helped Alameda County grantees provide more than 1,000 families with food and distribute more than 245,000 diapers and 240,000 wipes, 1,600 dental hygiene items, and 1,100 books for infants and toddlers.
