It’s a historic year for Governor-initiated early childhood education (ECE) proposals. Among $2 billion in funding proposals for programs serving young children and their families, Governor Newsom has proposed $490 million in infrastructure funding.
Angie Garling has been around the field of early education for a long time. She spent more than 18 years as Alameda County’s Early Childhood Education program administrator, developing and implementing systems and programs to address the needs of children and families in the county. She was a founding member of Oakland Starting Smart and Strong’s Lead Planning Team.
For the past 3 years, OUSD has collected information about the preschool experience of enrolling Kindergarten students. What percent of students attended some sort of preschool? What types of programs do our students attend?
